Prerequisites for the | |
namasté When you join our program, you must already have a backgound in Yoga. We suggest the following:
- Two years of Hatha Yoga
- A regular daily practice of asanas
In addition, you will need to complete an application form which includes an essay on why you want to learn to teach Yoga.
This program is designed for serious students who would like to learn more about philosophy, teaching methods, and various advanced areas of Hatha Yoga and classical Astanga (Raja) yoga. When you complete it, you will be qualified to teach beginning and intermediate students safely, and you will be able to introduce to all elements of Raja Yoga. This includes philosophy, meditation, and spiritual dimensions of Yoga. It is not designed for fitness instructors who are looking to add a quick credential so they can teach Yoga after they teach aerobics. Most students will take at least two years to complete the certification requirements.
If you are unsure whether you meet the requirements, please contact us and we will be happy to discuss it with you. Most of our students have already taken weekly Hatha classes with us, but previous study with us is not required. We stress that you must learn to live Yoga before you can teach it. Student teachers are expected to have a daily Yoga practice, and attend classes in Hudson with us, and at other places regularly during training.
It is not required that you attend every session, but for those seeking certification, a committment to come regularly and to practice regularly is expected.
